Blog publishing update

Due to a ftp publishing problem with Blogger that has been occurring since early August and has recently become a more significant issue I have decided to publish my blog directly via Wordpress. I will no longer publish via ftp from Blogger to my server. As a result my blog has a new address:

Web 2.0 technologies in teaching and learning

Web 2.0 has become a key focus of research in educational technologies of late. So, we have Web 2.0…. what is this “new” phenomenon? Web 2.0 encompasses Internet technologies such as blogging, wikis, swickis, rss feeds, tagging, folksonomy and podcasting. Web 2.0 is the second generation Internet that can facilitate collaboration and sharing between users such as teachers and learners.

The web itself has not changed. The way in which software developers design applications for the web has changed and the way people use the web as a platform has also changed. With Web 2.0 users own and control the data. There is a climate of participation. Users value add as their needs evolve. The interface is friendly. More information on Web 2.0 is located on the relevant workshop page.

Technology workshops for teachers

I am fortunate enough to conduct professional development workshops for teachers and university staff in Singapore and Australia on a regular basis. The focus of these workshops is the implementation of educational technologies both in the classroom and blended learning environments.

Workshop descriptions and resources are available via the Technology menu item or by simply clicking on one of the workshop titles above. Photographs taken at the workshops, including the 2007 Good To Great teaching conference in Singapore can be found in the workshops photographic gallery.

Teaching History

I teach history to secondary school students here in New South Wales. The classes range from Year 8 through to Year 12. Historical eras taught include that of the ancient Egyptians, the Aztecs, the Middle Ages, the Australian Aborigines and recent Australian history. Click on the links below to access resources for each of the relevant Year groups.

Digital photography galleries

A number of photographic galleries are also available for your exploration. The galleries are listed below and are updated on a regular basis. Please feel free to explore.

Web site revision

This web site has recently undergone a major revision. I borrowed the style of the iWeb "Gazette" template and built this using Macromedia Dreamweaver and simple html. Nested tables. I did not wish to play around with style sheets too much at this point. Maybe later. I used Adobe Photoshop Elements to create all of the photo gallery pages.

I have incorporated a number of Web 2.0 tools within the site including the sidebar inclusions at right. These include the Jaiku, Swicki and Flickr badges. They all require the Flash Player to be viewed within a browser.
