North Wollongong Beach

These photographs were taken at the mouth of Fairy Creek. It enters the ocean between North Wollongong Beach and Puckey's Beach. There was a wind blowing from the west. This "flattens" the sea and also leads to very clean wave breaks. There were a few surfers at the "creek mouth" this day. Saturday, 24th April, 2004.

I used to surf there with a good mate named Greg Dent. We would go down every morning before school or university. We would either surf there or at North Wollongong Beach. The only time I ever saw a shark in the water was there. We caught the next wave in to shore.

I remember I went to the surf just about every day in 1978. That was a good year. Every day, no matter how cold Greg and I tried our best to catch a wave somewhere. Of course, when there were storms we gave it a miss, bought some chips and simply watched the waves.
