Singapore 20th February 2005

Arrived in Singapore last night after one of the hairiest flights I have ever experienced. We were delayed on the runway at Sydney due to a passing thunderstorm. We changed runways and the pilot executed this banking right hand turn so low over Botany Bay. There was turbulence for some time and following that clear air turbulence for the next two or so hours. Horrible. Anyway, some scenes from the hotel window below. Looking south generally.

Went to my favourite coffee shop in Chinatown for a few drinks (ice lemon tea and iced tea) and dinner. I had sliced fish with vegetables. There is a photograph of it below. There are six photographs below that reveal what I could see from my seated position. If I had the energy I would create a panorama. I might set that as an exercise for my students.

Earlier that evening there was a lion dance celebrating either the Chinese New Year or the opening of a new shop. To be honest I was not sure. One of the nearby shops had a mural painted on the wall and window shutters above the entrance. Afterwards I took some time lapse photographs looking down Eu Tong Street towards Victoria Street. Finally, I add a photograph of the soon to be completed Singapore Management University campus adjacent to Bras Basah Road. The colour schemes are not all that appealing.
