During
my trip to Singapore for the Good
To Great 2008 Teaching and Learning Seminar at Nanyang Technological University
I managed to get out most evenings.
During the Tuesday
evening I teamed up with Tom
Reeves of the University of Georgia and Westley
Field of Methodist Ladies College,
Sydney. We met at Harry's Wine Bar [not my favourite place
~ an expatriate ghetto] for a drink and then we went for
a walk down South Bridge Road, past my old office on the
corner of Pagoda Street and down to Trengannu Street to
the Tai Pei Eating House for dinner. I often ate breakfast
there back in 2000. The three of us wandered about for
a bit and then back to the hotel to prepare for the following
day.
On the Wednesday night I met up with Siva, Airani and Anand
at Block 40 for a fish head curry that blew my head off.
We had a great night. It is always good to catch up with
the Otterman.
During Thursday evening I took Westley shopping using my
local knowledge and we picked up gifts for family and friends
back home. We had dinner at the Tai Pei Eating House again
and we followed that up with a Singapore sling in the Long
Bar at the Raffles Hotel. A very elegant way in which to
conclude a most enjoyable evening.
At the end of the week, Friday, I packed up and together
with Sheryl and Vivien of the Centre for Educational Development
at NTU took a taxi directly from the university to the
new T3 terminal at Singapore’s Changi International
Airport and we shared dinner. It was a wonderful way to
conclude the week. Vivien and Sheryl are excellent company
and we had a great evening. They bid me farewell at the
gate and I took a Singapore
Airlines flight back home to
Australia. You can read two blog posts
about these events as well: Part
One and Part
Two.
